•  Generate frontier knowledge and excellence through the integration of complementary approaches aimed at the global characterization of agricultural ecosystems and their interaction with terrestrial ecosystems.

  •  Contribute to developing new technologies for sustainable agricultural production.

  •  Align research activities with the objectives of major Eu policies and strategies aimed at mitigating the impact of climate change and biodiversity loss from agricultural production, with special attention to the European Green Deal, the Farm to Fork strategy and the Horizon Europe Soil Mission.

  •  Contribute to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) 1, 3, 5, 12, 13 and 15 through the development of cooperative and ambitious projects that integrate the initiative's Research Centers and Groups and external national/international collaborators.

  •  Develop cutting edge infrastructures for the study of agricultural and wild ecosystems

  •  Leverage to lead UPM's R&D&i in the sustainable agriculture sector, incorporating new Centers and Groups into the initiative.

  •  Contribute to boosting the sustainable agricultural production sector through interaction with the stakeholders in the sector (companies, public research bodies, associations, consumers, regulators, etc.).

  •  Improve the UPM's Bachelor/Master/Doctorate training programmes.
