The CBGP (UPM-INIA/CSIC) is a mixed research center between Universidad Politécnica de Madrid (UPM) and Instituto Nacional de Investigación y Tecnología Agraria y Alimentaria - Centro Nacional CSIC (INIA/CSIC). It was established in 2006 with the dual purpose of contributing to the sustainable development of the agricultural, forestry and environmental sectors through the bioeconomy and of increasing the competitiveness of research and production in these areas. In addition, it plays an educational role and is a reference center in the training of scientists and technicians in the field of biotechnology and plant genomics. Its creation responds to a double need: to continue conducting basic research at a competitive level and to respond to the demands for new products, processes and services related to plant biology. The center has received the Severo Ochoa Center of Excellence 2022-2025 recognition for the second time in a row. The strategic objectives of the CBGP are: 1. The generation of knowledge in genomics and biotechnology of plants and the organisms that interact with them; 2. The development of new technologies and tools for functional analysis; 3. The development of new products and processes of interest for the productive sectors and 4. The transmission of information and the development of educational programs for scientists and technicians.
